Bob Kelly Fox 29

In October 2014 Bob joined the FOX 29 News team as the traffic reporter for “Good Day Philadelphia.”  While in that role he also hosts the regular morning segments “Kelly’s Classroom,” “Breakfast with Bob,” and “Town Takeover,” all which take him out into the community to connect with “Good Day Philadelphia” viewers.  He’s also co-hosted the Philadelphia St. Patrick’s Day Parade for more than 15 years.

Prior to joining FOX 29, Bob was the Traffic Anchor for 13 years at CBS 3 in Philadelphia.  He became the first Philadelphia traffic anchor to do his reports in front of the green screen.  Animated and fun to watch with his highly popular phrases like Jammo, Two Jelly Donut Delay, and the Conshy Curve.  He is now referred to by so many as “The Dean of Traffic.”

Bob began his career as a radio disc jockey, working with Jerry Blavat, The Geator. He worked up and down the dial at Philly’s hottest radio stations, until traffic became news and he joined KYW News Radio with Traffic on the 2s.

Through the years, the Emmy Award-winning Traffic Anchor has entertained sports fans on the Jumbotron at the Eagles, Flyers and Sixers games, and with his popular segment “Tailgate Takeover,” before Eagles games.

Bob Kelly Traffic

Bob started at 102.9 MGK and worked up and down the dial at all the hot stations. He discovered that the music industry was starting to change. Fewer DJs were actually live on the radio; everything was prerecorded. His agent said to him, ‘Traffic is going to be huge. What if you DJ that?’ Traffic is live; it’ll always be live, you can’t prerecord it. So instead of talking up the Rolling Stones, Bob decided to DJ the traffic.

Bob joined KYW Radio’s News on the 2s, where he quickly became a fan favorite thanks to his lively style and catchphrases. Soon, he was reporting the traffic on  eight popular stations during rush hour. In 2001, CBS 3 came calling.

Bob with his trademark humor and enthusiasm, changed the way traffic gets reported not just in Philadelphia, but everywhere. In 2014, Kelly, who’s an Emmy winner and inductee of the Broadcast Pioneers Hall of Fame, moved to FOX 29’s Good Day Philadelphia. He is arguably the region’s most popular traffic reporter, and while he’s had offers to move to New York City and a larger market, he has no intention of going anywhere.

On Mondays Bob hosts a segment called “Town Takeover,” where he heads to a Philadelphia neighborhood or South Jersey suburb to get to know a community, and during the holidays, viewers look forward to “A Very Kelly Christmas,” Kelly’s tour of the lavishly decorated homes of Northeast Philadelphia.

When he’s not working on a segment, he still loves the unpredictable nature of traffic reporting, which forces him to think on his feet.
