Brit Marling Biography
Brit Marling (Brit Heywort Marling) is an American actress and screenwriter born on 7th August 1982 in Chicago, Illinois, U.S. She is co-created, wrote, and starred in the Netflix series The OA playing the role of Prairie Johnson/The OA.
While studying at Georgetown University Brit met Mike Cahill and Zal Batmanglij who both became future collaborators directors.
She began her career as an investment analyst intern for the investment banking firm Goldman Sachs during the summer of her junior year. She turned down a job offer by the firm as she didn’t feel satisfied in that field. She moved to Cuba with Cahill to film the documentary Boxers and Ballerinas. She co-wrote the documentary with Cahill and Shumaker and co directed with Cahill which helped her gain recognition in 2004.
In 2005 she moved with Cahill and Batmanglij to Los Angeles where she attended auditions and was offered roles in horror films which she turned down as she didn’t want to play parts offered to young actresses, the perfunctory girlfriend or a crime victim. She was discovered by talent agent Hylda Queally.
Brit co-wrote, co-produced, and acted in the 2011 films Sound of My Voice and Another Earth, directed by Batmanglij and Cahill, respectively. In 2012 she played the daughter of Richard Gere’s character in Arbitrage.

Brit and Zal Batmanglij are friends who met way back at Georgetown University where they were both studying. The two have since collaborated in several films as directors. In 2009 they both joined the so called freegan for two months. According to their website they live in tents on the street and ate food salvaged from rubbish bins. They describe their way of life as the ‘total boycott of an economic system where the profit has eclipsed ethical considerations’. Of the experience, Brit said: ‘We were young, hungry, and broke, and wanted to learn more about these ideas. We spent the summer traveling—train hopping cross-country, living on organic farms—and fell in with anarchist collectives and freegan groups. We were changed by that experience.’

Brit Marling The OA/ Netflix
Brit collaborated with Batmanglij to create the drama series The OA which debuted in 2016 on Netflix. Brit also features in the series as Prairie Johnson/The OA. Prairie is a young woman who resurfaces after having been missing for seven years and now calls herself “The OA” and can see, despite having been blind before her disappearance.
The OA refuses to tell the FBI and her adoptive parents where she has been and how her eyesight was restored, and instead quickly assembles a team of five locals (four high school students and a teacher) to whom she reveals that information, also explaining her life story. Finally, she asks for their help to save the other missing people who she claims she can rescue by opening a portal to another dimension.
Brit Marling Harvey Weinstein/ The Atlantic
In October 2017 Brit revealed in an article on The Atlantic that she was also harrassed by Harvey Weinstein. She alleged that Harvey invited her to meet him in 2014 after two films she co-wrote and starred in were included at the Sundance Film Festival. She wrote that she was met by a female employee who soon left her alone with Weinstein before he suggested alcohol and massages.

Brit Marling Teeth
Brit has a crooked teeth which she says is what she loves most about her face. She revealed that she was once in a dentist and one of the people was like: “Oh, you have a pretty crooked tooth; do you want to fix that with Invisalign?” to which she replied, “What I love most about my face is that crooked tooth.
