Chris Higgins Biography

Chris Higgins is an American reporter/anchor for FOX 2 News Weekend Meteorologist. In 1990 he began his television career at FOX 2 as an intern. He is responsible for planning and executing operational military weather integration with the active-duty, providing atmospheric characterization and forecasts to more than 140 DOD installations in the northeast CONUS, Responsible for human and material asset protection.

His education was homegrown. In 1988 he graduated from De Smet Jesuit High School. After High School, he attended St. Louis University. Then, in  1992, Chris received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Meteorology from St. Louis University.

Chris Higgins Career

Chris began his professional career in Television at FOX 2 as an Intern in 1990, after his graduation from St. Louis University in 1992, He moved into the core of ” Tornado Alley,” Joplin, MO, Where He burned through two energizing a very long time as Chief Meteorologist at KODE-TV.

In 1994, he moved back to St. Louis and FOX 2 as the weekend meteorologist and now work as a lead forecaster for FOX 2 News at 11 pm from Monday to Friday. In June 2003, he understood quite a while dream when he was appointed as an officer in the Air Force Reserves. On his”drill” ends of the week, he filled in as “Major Higgins” with the twelfth Operational Weather Flight at Scott Air Force Base.

His zone of obligation covered the whole northeastern United States including the White House. Amid the late spring of 2008, he conveyed to deserts of the Middle East in help of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. He has highly been respected as the United States Air Force Weather Officer of the Year for the Reserve Component multiple times – 2006 and again in 2008.

In 2013, while serving on the Storm Prediction Center back-up group, he created the main non-military personnel Tornado Watch at any point issued by the United States Air Force. Community involvement is important to him. So, every year he makes dozens of public appearances at local schools talking about the weather, the importance of staying in school and serving his community!

When he is not working he enjoys being outdoors and trying to stay fit. He loves to run, workout, work in the yard or just relax on the deck.

Chris Higgins Awards

In October 2002, he was honored to receive my first of five Emmy awards from the National Academy of Television Arts and Science for weathercasting and reporting. In July of 2006, he became first ever St. Louis meteorologist to receive the American Meteorological Society’s Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) designation – passing a rigorous written test covering many aspects of atmospheric and natural sciences.
