Courtney Jorgensen Biography

Courtney Jorgensen an American Meteorologist, reporter, and newscaster. Currently, she working as a meteorologist for WNDU. She joined the NewsCenter 16 Weather Team on November 2017.  Also, she has spent her entire life in Michigan and Indiana, living in Michiana since 2005.

After graduating as a Valedictorian from Wayne Memorial High School in 1999, Courtney went on to attend the prestigious University of Michigan. (GO BLUE!) She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Atmospheric Science in 2003 and continued on to receive a Master of Science in Atmospheric Science in 2004. During her time there, she was President of the Society of Women Engineers and also the Chief Weather Forecaster for WOLV-TV, a student-run television station.

As far back as she was a young lady, she realized she needed to be a meteorologist. At seven years old, she was setting up a video recorder in the family room and utilizing a hairbrush as a mouthpiece to report the climate. In one unmistakable memory from her youth.

She saw a pipe cloud adjacent out her front entryway and is the just one of her relatives to look for a haven in an inside lobby while the remainder of her family gazed in amazement at the sky. Indeed, even from the get-go, she recognized what Mother Nature was prepared to do and that it was so imperative to share life-sparing data with others.

During her time there, she was President of the Society of Women Engineers and also the Chief Weather Forecaster for WOLV-TV, a student-run television station. She was only the second-ever intern to be hired, up to that point, at WXYZ-TV in Detroit, MI and worked as the Associate Weather Producer for her mentors, Chuck Gaidica and Paul Gross, for two years.

Upon graduation, she took some time away from weather to work in corporate America and then onto non-profit work, her other passion. She returned to the green screen in 2011 as the Weekend Meteorologist at WSJV-TV (FOX28) in Elkhart, IN until the summer of 2016.

When Courtney is not filling-in for the other members of the WNDU weather team, she works as the Community Engagement Coordinator and 5K Director for Girls on the Run Michiana. She is passionate about their mission to inspire young girls in our community to be joyful, healthy and confident.
