Dan Henry

My fascination with weather began when I was about 8 years old while growing up in Northern California. The local meteorologists were in a frenzy in anticipation of a storm they were forecasting to bring a rare treat to Bay Area residents – snow!  I had never seen snow at my house, and honestly, I didn’t believe them. Well, they were right! We woke up the next morning to a winter wonderland.

My passion for watching the weather eventually led me to Penn State University where I earned a B.S. degree in Meteorology and became a football fanatic!  While at Penn State, I completed a 3 semester internship at the National Weather Service that landed me a job as a research meteorologist upon graduation.  After two years of number crunching, I was ready to give television a try. I sent a tape to a small station in Wilmington, North Carolina, and as they say, the rest is history.

Over the years, I’ve witnessed just about everything Mother Nature can dish out: hurricanes, blizzards, floods and quite a few tornadoes. In fact, I was on the air for two terrible tornado outbreaks in the Washington, D.C. area in 2001 and 2002. One of the tornadoes, nearly an F-5, devastated the town of La Plata, Maryland on April 24, 2002. That storm and many others inspired me to write a book titled Washington Weather. Part of the proceeds were donated to the victims of the terrible La Plata tornado.

Since coming to FOX 4 in January 2003, I’ve had the privilege of leading the most talented group of meteorologists in North Texas. I’m honored to have been awarded five Emmys, including three for Best Television Weathercaster in Texas in 2004, 2005, and 2009. I earned the American Meteorological Society’s Seal of Approval in 1992, and I was the first meteorologist in the DFW area to earn the prestigious Certified Broadcast Meteorologist Seal in 2007.

Finally, I need to mention a few very special people in my life. My wife, Kerry, and our three beautiful children, Logan, Brooke, and Carys. They give me all the inspiration I need to be successful.  When you’re away from your television, you can keep up to date on the latest forecast by checking me out on either one of my Facebook accounts or on Twitter (DHenryFox4).  If you have a weather question or a speaking request, feel free to e-mail me at: [email protected].
