David has almost 35 years of experience as a Broadcast Meteorologist with stops in Texas, Oklahoma, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Alaska.
He began his career in 1983 at KWTX-TV in Waco, Texas while still in his senior year at Baylor University. After earning his degree, he stayed another 4 years before making a stop at KOTV-TV in Tulsa. The stint in Tulsa allowed David to do research with meteorologists from the University of Oklahoma, and complete Doppler training at the National Severe Storms Laboratory.
In 1990, he made the move to KVIA-TV in El Paso where he was given the opportunity to take graduate level coursework in Atmospheric Sciences. Upon completing several hot and dusty years in Far West Texas, he went to KSTP-TV in Minneapolis where he had access to the very best forecasting tools and equipment of that period. He could still forecast life-threatening weather each spring and summer, but also got exposure to bitter air masses and the chance to forecast horrendous snow, ice and blizzards.
By the late ‘90s, David went to WMTV-TV in Madison, Wisconsin to become Chief Meteorologist. He spent 15 years at that station, and certainly made a mark on communities across Southern Wisconsin with heavy involvement in public speaking, community events, school lectures and non-profit work.
David is a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist. To acquire a CBM, applicants must have completed all math and science based curriculum for meteorology, pass a rigorous written exam, and have their work reviewed to assess technical competence, informational value, explanatory value, and skill at communication.
David, his wife Dana, and daughter Gabriella live in west Topeka.When not studying, forecasting or presenting weather, David has a second job as Executive Director for TDC Learning Centers in Topeka. During his much appreciated down time, David enjoys family activities, golf, travel, home renovation and taking a nap when possible.
