Douglas Laux Biography
Douglas Laux is an American media personality having been cast in six episodes of Finding Escobar’s Millions, a Discovery Channel series.
He is also a former case officer for the Central Intelligence Agency, having served undercover in the Afghanistan and Middle East for 8 years. After leaving the CIA, Laux wrote a memoir, Left of Boom, which details his experiences serving amidst the Global War on Terror.
Douglas Laux Education
Laux is a graduate from the University of Indiana earning a bachelor’s degree in political science and East Asian studies with a focus on the Japanese language. After a short stint working for the shipping company DHL, Laux decided to join the CIA after his graduation from IU.
Laux was an officer in the Near East Division and served multiple tours in Afghanistan and the Middle East. He got frustrated with the bureaucratic handling of the Syrian Civil War and resigned in February 2013 from the Agency.

Laux published his memoir in April 2016, Left of Boom: How A Young CIA Case Officer Penetrated the Taliban and Al-Qaeda which was inspired by his own experience while working as a CIA in the most terrorist-affected areas of Afghanistan. A year later, he appeared in six episodes of Finding Escobar’s Millions, a Discovery Channel series, which debuted on November 3, 2017.
Laux is also credited as the executive producer and creator of the series and his photography was featured in a Playboy Magazine article in September 2017, entitled, “In The Path of the Totality: Notes of a Veteran Chasing the Eclipse.”
