Evan Onstot is an American weekday evening anchor for KOCO 5 News. He joined co-anchor Jessica Schambach and Chief Meteorologist Damon Lane for the 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. newscasts.

He is married to Julie who graduated from the University of Oklahoma, and she interned at KOCO 5 while in college. Evan and his wife met when they were both working in the news business in Texas. He proposed to his wife while they were taking Christmas pictures, it was an early Christmas gift!. Evan says he and his family LOVE dogs, especially Grey. They adopted a dog named “Bear” while living in Texas. He passed away after being with them for 13 years. Evan says he and his family want to adopt a dog soon. Onstot and his wife have two children – 3-year-old Austen and 1-year-old Grey.

Onstot anchors KOCO 5 News at 5:00 p.m. 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. weekdays, with co-anchor Jessica Schambach, Abigail Ogle and Chief Meteorologist Damon Lane.

He joined KOCO 5 News after years anchoring and reporting for stations in Texas, California, Montana and Missouri.

Onstot’s mission every day is to report and share stories that matter to his neighbors and viewers. Coverage that is thorough and fair, always asking the tough questions, but never taking sides.

His reporting has led to the arrest of a shady business operator and help for numerous victims. Moreso his coverage from Dallas to mark the 50th anniversary of the Kennedy Assassination earned him statewide honors. His live reporting from the 2016 national political conventions was broadcast by five stations in four states. He also moderated a host of candidate debates leading to the 2018 midterm elections, including California’s gubernatorial race and local congressional, city council and mayoral contests.

Evan’s wife, Julie, is a proud Sooner and even interned at KOCO 5 News herself while studying journalism at OU. They look forward to Saturday morning tailgates in Norman with their young children, Austen and Grey.

Onstot comes to KOCO 5 from KSEE-TV (NBC) in Fresno, California, where he served as weekday evening anchor.
“I’m thrilled and honored to join the team at KOCO 5,” said Onstot. “Professionally, it’s a great opportunity at a great station. But I’m just as excited to move my family to Oklahoma City. It’s a homecoming for my wife, a Sooner grad and a fantastic place to raise our children.”

Onstot brings a wealth of experience to his new role at KOCO 5. In addition to anchoring newscasts, he was a host of a weekly political show with local newsmakers and policy experts. He moderated three debates during the 2018 political season, including a statewide California gubernatorial debate. In 2016, he reported live from both political party national conventions for five stations in four states, moderated four live debates and landed a market exclusive interview with then-House Speaker Paul Ryan.

Onstot’s weekly political show and political reporting earned him a spot on a list of Fresno’s most influential people in local politics. He was also nominated for an Emmy Award for a special on the 50th Anniversary of President Kennedy’s assassination, which he hosted and co-wrote. The special aired in dozens of markets across the country.

This is a real homecoming for the Onstot family. Onstot’s wife, Julie, is not only a proud graduate of the University of Oklahoma, she interned at KOCO 5, while studying at OU.
