Gene Lavanchy (born September 17, 1964), is an American radio and television personality and journalist, and a co-host of WFXT’s Boston 25 Morning News in Boston.

Lavanchy lives in a family of Walpole natives. He and his wife Anne-Marie are high school sweethearts and have been married for 22 years. The two have four children: Matthew, 18; Jack, 15; Brett, 12; and Lauren, 10. Matthew is a recent graduate of Walpole High who plans to attend Wheaton College. The other three are making their way through the Walpole school system.
“It’s really a good school system and they get kids prepared and ready for the next level,” Lavanchy said. “They send kids to some of the best schools in the country in Walpole.” With family and friends in town, Lavanchy has always been sure to give back – so much so that he was named “Person of the Year” in 2012 by the Friends of St. Patrick organization.

Lavanchy began his broadcasting career in 1986 at WJCC-AM radio (now WDIS AM 1170) in Norfolk, Massachusetts as a sports writer and producer. He got his start in TV news in 1986, covering sports at WBBH-TV in Fort Myers, Florida, was a sports anchor at WLNE-TV in Providence, Rhode Island, and also the host of WSBK-TV’s Boston Bruins telecasts.
Coming onto the news scene in 1993 with WHDH in Boston, he became their sports director and sports anchor in 1994. As time progressed, he also hosted WHDH’s “Sports Xtra” Sunday late night sports program, where he would interview and discuss current topics with many local New England sports stars.
After leaving WHDH, Gene arrived at WFXT in August 2003. Lavanchy and co-host Kim Carrigan, who had also left WHDH, lead one of Boston’s most popular morning news shows. On December 17, 2007, Lavanchy featured his own English Wikipedia article page on WFXT’s Morning News in a segment about finding yourself on the Internet.

Gene Lavanchy Awards
Lavanchy won the UPI award for overall sports coverage in 1988, was the recipient of the 1991 AP award for best sports feature, and, in 1994, Lavanchy was named “Best Sports Anchor” by Boston magazine’s annual “Best of Boston” Awards.

Born and raised in Massachusetts, Gene Lavanchy is one of the most recognizable anchors in Boston. He was a vital part of the Boston 25 Morning News launch in 2003. Gene takes great pride in preparing New Englanders for their day. Anchoring most of a six-hour local morning newscast allows him to alert viewers to breaking news, provide context and perspective on the big stories of the day, and hone one of his finest skills, floating Dad Jokes.
Gene has also field-anchored Boston 25 Morning News’ popular Zip Trips for the past 14 seasons. He has broadcast live and met thousands of amazing people from more than 230 cities and towns across the state. Gene has interviewed countless newsmakers, celebrities and everyday citizens who do extraordinary things.
Before joining Boston 25 Morning News, Gene spent ten years as a sports director and lead sports anchor at WHDH-TV in Boston. He also hosted the popular Sunday night Sports Xtra show. Previously, Gene held sport anchor positions at WLNE-TV in Providence, Rhode Island and WBBH-TV in Fort Myers, Florida. He formerly served as host of WSBK-TV’s Boston Bruins telecasts. Gene is an Emerson College graduate and grew up in Walpole, Massachusetts where he currently lives with his wife, Anne Marie, and their four children.
Gene is a proud citizen of Walpole and active member of the community. He is a board member of the Friends of Walpole Community Athletic Complex, a group that has worked tirelessly to raise funds and build new fields at Walpole High School and make improvements at recreational sports fields throughout the city.
Gene has served as a spokesperson for the Massachusetts Down Syndrome Congress, The Buddy Walk, and The Independence 5k Walk and Run which supports programs for adults and children with developmental disabilities in more than 110 communities across the Bay State. Gene was named “Person of the Year” in 2012 by the Friends of St. Patrick organization for his community work in Walpole.
