A Transformers Love Story Could Be in the Franchise’s Future

Adopted From cbr.com

With the Transformers franchise gearing up for a Bumblebee sequel featuring Optimus Prime and the titular yellow ‘bot, franchise producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura has revealed it could go one step further and focus not just on action and explosions, but on robot love stories.

“One of the things I want to see, and I don’t know if we’ll do this particular thing, but I think we will eventually do a love story between Transformers,” di Bonaventura told Collider. “What does a love story mean? Definitely not sex, maybe not even kissing, but the idea that they would have that emotional crush has never really been brought in.”

In past Michael Bay movies, the robots did express attraction towards humans, but it was more in the direction of cheeky jokes and moments of lust towards the likes of Megan Fox’s Mikaela. Now, though, with a Bay-themed sequel also in the works to Bumblebee and Transformers: The Last Knight, it’s apparent the series wants to go deeper into what romance could bring for these Robots in Disguise and carve out more of the emotional impact that fans and critics alike loved in Bumblebee’s solo outing.

“That’s kind of the direction we’re going to try to head into, which is to give them human desires that, up until now, we haven’t seen much of,” di Bonaventura added. “I think that will change the relationship with the Transformers. So we may do some wild action, we’ll do an action for sure in the main line, but it’s a different kind of attempt. I know we will hold on to a lot of the lessons from Bumblebee.”
