Ilona Carson is a reporter and late afternoon anchor for ABC owned-and-operated station KTRK (channel 13) in Houston. Prior to KTRK, Carson was an anchor for Fox-owned KSAZ in Phoenix, Arizona

Ilona Carson Career

Carson began her career as an intern at NBC’s show Nightly Newsworking with Tom Brokaw. Her main job simply was to hand Tom scripts that came off the printer but, it was enough to spark a passion for journalism and anchoring. Initially, she wanted to work for a big network but she changed her mind, after realizing that working in the regional market would allow her to make a difference in her community, while also giving her the chance to create a healthy balance between her work & personal life.

Carson later worked at KAMR in Amarillo & KSAZ in Phoenix before moving to KTRK in Houston, where she currently works at. KTRK is an affiliate of the ABC Network. Besides being a news anchor, Carson also works as a reporter, covering national and local issues. Her job has also taken her out of Houston and around the country as well as around the world to places such as Italy, Germany, England, and China.

Carson has said in interviews that her current job is very different from her previous work. She said, In Phoenix, our job was to have fun every single day. My job here is to inform and be newsworthy, trustworthy and credible. For her efforts, Ilona has earned quite a few accolades that include a Gracie Award, a Lone Star Emmy Award and a National Headliner Award.
