Jean Martirez Fox 11
Jean Martirez the next woman out at Fox 11
Longtime Fox 11 morning news anchor Jean Martirez posted this picture to Twitter with the hint: “Cleaned out my desk. Wonder if this will get my security deposit back?”
The hint gave away the news that Martirez has been excused from the station, following “Good Day LA” fixtures Dorothy Lucey and Jillian Reynolds out the door.
That set off an exchange of condolence and “I’m OK” tweets among LA’s small club of TV news talent. When Lucey tweeted one day that she just knew that Martirez was on a “wildly romantic getaway,” Martirez responded that she was in bed with her laptop and beau “figuring out how I file online for unemployment!”
Her most recent assignments were to co-anchor the FOX 11 Morning News, which airs from 4:30 a.m. to 7:00 a.m., as well as the 10 a.m. and noon newscasts. She has not yet been scrubbed from the Fox 11 website: her bio is still up.
Lucey, whose departure from GDLA in June was public and notably involuntary, posted on her blog last week that “My old station is not the happiest place on Earth. Jean Martirez is now gone. That’s 3 women in 4 months.
For years there was talk that she and Jillian Reynolds could barely stand each other, based on how they seemed on the GDLA set. The women always publicly denied any issues, and on Monday Lucey posted about her ex-set mate:
“I just saw Jillian looking hot on KTLA. She is too good not to be on TV. In all my meetings the suits say they want the kind of chemistry that Good Day LA tossed away.” Remember, Lucey had previously gone on KTLA to talk about her firing.
