Jessica Headley San Antonio

For weeks, KABB anchorwoman Jessica Headley has been missing from her usual morning and midday news shows on San Antonio’s Fox affiliate, and several viewers have voiced concern over her absence.

“She’s my favorite in the morning,” Cassandra Miller said in an email. “Will she return?”Nothing has happened to her; she has simply been handling a later shift.

Headley, a popular KABB veteran of nearly five years, is co-anchoring the station’s signature 9 p.m. news until KABB officially names a replacement for departed anchorwoman Elisa Amigo.Amigo, who had helmed that evening newscast with co-anchor Ryan Wolf for three years, left in May to join her husband in Cleveland, Ohio.

“I’m just filling in to help out right now and enjoying getting to hang with some of our teammates (whom) I don’t see in the mornings,” Headley said in a Facebook message.Meanwhile, a variety of news faces have been sitting in for Headley in the morning.“We’ve had different people fill in on ‘Fox News First’ while Jessica helps out on the 9 p.m. show,” morning and 11 a.m. anchorman Ernie Zuniga said. “They are all talented, and I enjoy sharing the anchor desk with them. I look forward to seeing what will happen, but no decision has been made yet.”

This week, Zuniga has been sharing the show with multimedia journalist Breanna Barrs, who joined KABB in February.According to her station bio, Barrs grew up just outside of Dallas and graduated with a broadcast journalism degree from Texas Tech University.

She began her professional career at WDHN-TV in Dothan, Alabama, working as a reporter before quickly getting promoted to anchor. One viewer mentioned that Barrs’ bubbly personality seemed like a good fit for the spontaneous Zuniga.

The two have even taken to reciting original poems tailored to the day. On Wednesday, they performed some lively verses about returning to work after a long Fourth of July holiday.“I cannot take any credit for those poems,” Zuniga wrote in a Facebook message. “Breanna writes the rhymes herself every morning.”

As for who officially will end up in these various anchor chairs, that decision seems to be on hold.Asked for an update Wednesday, KABB general manager Dean Radla emailed this reponse: “No comment on our anchor status at this point.”
