He experienced many types of diverse weather while living near “The Windy City”. He always enjoyed winter storms but was fearful of powerful summertime severe thunderstorms from a young age. A childhood fear of severe thunderstorms and tornadoes eventually turned into a passion for forecasting.

While at Ball State, Joe was a forecaster for WCRD 91.3 FM, Ball State’s radio station, as well as a member of the school’s on-air newscast NewsLink Indiana, where he served as the chief weather forecaster in his final semester. In addition to working with these organizations, he gained more professional experience through internships at WISH-TV in Indianapolis, Indiana and at WGN-TV in Chicago, Illinois.
