John Campbell Biography
John Campbell is an Award-Winning American sportscaster and sports contributor. He began his broadcasting career in 1970 at WBAY-TV in Green Bay. He worked as a news reporter and photographer. For his work as a sportscaster, he has been able to grab himself an award. Campbell won the 2010 Silver Circle Award (lifetime Emmy) from the Upper Midwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association in 2005.

John began his sportscasting in 1970 at WBAY-TV in Green Bay. He worked for two years as a news reporter and photographer covering different stories and capturing different moments. He got his big break when he landed the chance to join the WBAY-TV sports department. He worked in the sports department for eight months until he was promoted to WBAY-TV sports director. He served as the sports director until June 1979 when he accepted the chance to become the sports director at KCRG-TV9. Campbell served as KCRG-TV9 Sports Director for more than 33 years.
He received praises from different media people claiming he was the best with Shannon Booth, director of KCRG Products commenting “one-of-a-kind … a role model, a leader, a true team player,” and added, “He’s spent 30-plus years capturing memorable TV moments.” Booth told Cedar Rapids Gazette that, “John is the best in the business. He has always set the bar very high with quality storytelling and exceptional people stories.” John retired from being the sports director at KCRG-TV9 in December 2012. John continues to contribute to KCRG-TV9 with “Big Ol’ Fish” and other segments. John also contributes to sports broadcasts on KCRG 9.2. John joined KCRG-TV9 as the sports director in 1979. Campbell has served as KCRG-TV9 Sports Director for more than 33 years. John retired from being the sports director at KCRG-TV9 in December 2012. John continues to contribute to KCRG-TV9 with “Big Ol’ Fish” and other segments. John also contributes to sports broadcasts on KCRG 9.2.
