Jorge Torres is the Chief Meteorologist for the KOB Eyewitness News 4 Weather Team and the winner of the 2017 New Mexico Broadcasters Association’s Weathercaster of the Year award. You can watch Jorge’s live forecasts during our weekday evening newscasts. Lead the KOB Weather Department. Forecast for the evening newscast along with radio updates on770 KKOB and KCBQ in Roswell.

Torres Jorge Young
Was born to a Puerto Rican father and a Mexican mother in Austin, Texas. Grew up in Pflugerville, a suburb of Austin. He attended college and graduated with a degree in Meteorology from Texas A&M University in 2009. After graduation, he was hired to as the morning meteorologist for KVIA-TV in El Paso, Texas from 2009-2013. He earned Second Place in the Texas AP Awards category for “Best Weathercast” for Division III in 2011. In 2013, Jorge passed the rigorous Certified Broadcast Meteorology Exam and earned his seal. Now, he is embarking on the newest chapter of his career as the Chief Meteorologist for KOB-TV in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Jorge Torres Education
Jorge attended Texas A&M University where he received a Bachelor’s of Science in Meteorology as well as a Minor in Spanish. Additionally, he also became a brother of Omega Delta Phi, which has a chapter at the University of New Mexico.
Jorge Torres KOB
He joined KOB in June of 2013. He enjoys forecasting the different types of weather conditions and learning more about the geography, history, and the people of the cities, towns, villages, and pueblos throughout New Mexico, Southwest Colorado, and the Navajo Nation.
However, from extreme heat, haboobs, flash floods, drought, and winter storms, you can count on him to cover it all inside the studio and out in the elements.
Prior to working at KOB, he was a meteorologist at KVIA in El Paso, Texas, where he earned the prestigious Certified Broadcast Meteorologist designation from the American Meteorological Society. Furthermore, he now serves on the AMS Board of Broadcast Meteorology along with being a member of the National Weather Association and the National Association of Hispanic Journalists.

Although most of his talks are generally in the Albuquerque Metro area, he won’t hesitate to talk to students or teachers in any district within the KOB Eyewitness News 4 viewing area.
