Julie Phillips Biography

Julie Phillips is an American broadcast meteorologist. She currently serves as the weekend evening meteorologist at WFLA-TV’s Storm Team 8. She can be seen on Monday through Friday at 4 pm on Channel 8 and at 8 pm on Great 38. Over the years, Julie has garnered great expertise as well as fame and recognition throughout her 10+ years working in the field of Broadcast Journalism.

She is engaged to a man only known as Russ. The couple lives together in South Tampa with the two English Bulldogs named Lolli and Annie. The two are supporters of the BUCS although she also supports the CANES.

Julie Phillips Early Life

Julie Phillips was born and raised in the state of Chicago. Her father grew up in Seminole. However, he is retired and now stays in Treasure Island. As a child, her father used to take her and their family on vacations at Treasure Island and Clearwater Beach. Her grandmother and aunt still reside in Seminole. She finds this exciting as they are all close to where she stays.

She attended the University of Miami located in Coral Gables, Florida. Here, she majored in Meteorology and Broadcast Journalism. After graduating, she finally had her chance to track weather, especially during the hurricane season. In college, she started supporting the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. She has also aided in organizing events in the area. She was also a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority.

Julie Phillips Career

Her career in broadcast meteorology started in July 2010 when she got a job as a weekend meteorologist at KTXS News. Her roles here was as a weekend TV meteorologist and weekday reporter. She became the channel’s Morning Meteorologist in November 2011. After 1 year and 8 months working for the channel left. In June 2013, she got a job at WFLA as its Weekday Meteorologist. She has been working there ever since.

Julie has covered the weather of Abilene in Texas, and now Tampa Bay area/St. Petersburg, in the Florida area. One of her most prominent newscasts was of the Easter Sunday where Softball size hail devastated the city. That day, they remained on-air for about 8 hours straight.

In her spare time, she worked for her CBM (Certified Broadcast Meteorologist) license from the American Meteorological Society. Since August 2013, she has been a volunteer at the Florida English Bulldog Rescue. In addition, she also has adopted two of her own English Bulldogs which she named Lolli and Annie.
