Kezhal Dashti Journalist

Kezhal Dashti is a news anchor at WFAA in Dallas, TX, featured on WFAA Daybreak, weekday mornings. I’m an award-winning journalist that joined WFAA in December 2018 as the Social Media Reporter. Before returning to my beautiful hometown of DFW (Shout-out Arlington!), I was the main anchor for the KFOX14 Morning News in El Paso. I had so much fun, learned so much about a beautiful new culture, and fell in LOVE with El Paso. If you’ve never been, GO! The mountains, weather, and people are what make it so amazing. And did I mention the food and drinks in Juarez are cheap?? #JustSayin’

But home is where the heart is, and I made it my mission in El Paso to bring myself back. And man ya’ll…I’m at THE channel 8!! I grew up watching WFAA and never once thought I’d be on TV in my hometown on a station as good as this one. She said when not at work, you can catch me catching up on all my Real Housewives and reality TV shows!

I love cuddling up on the couch with my husband and two furbabies (Yes, they watch the Real Housewives with me!), or hanging out with my family. But on a serious note, I’ve always loved pop-culture and news. My family and I are Iranian, and growing up we always had the news on. My parents taught me to be well-rounded and to know anything about everything. So obviously, I had to get into the news. I speak fluent Farsi! I didn’t learn English until I went to school and frankly wasn’t fluent in English until about 2nd or 3rd grade.

I also love raising awareness for Ovarian Cancer by sharing my story of survival. I was diagnosed with Stage 1 Ovarian Dysgerminoma in Dec. 13, 2013 (Yes, it was Friday the 13th). I finished treatment on March 14, 2014, and have been cancer free ever since But I made myself a promise while I was in treatment. I said I would use whatever platform I had to raise awareness for Ovarian Cancer and push the importance of early detection (LADIES, GO TO YOUR GYNO AND GET REGULAR CHECKUPS!!). She says she likes the legacy station of the DFW area! What can you not like about working here?

The people are so nice and passionate about informing the metroplex. I also LOVE the way WFAA delivers the news to you at home. It’s fun, it’s different, and quite frankly, it’s not “news.” I was also a competitive swimmer for about 11-12 years. I’m 5’2, so I was definitely one of the smaller swimmers! I swam locally for a club team in Ft. Worth called FAST (Fort Worth Area Swim Team). I also swam for Lamar High School in Arlington (Go Vikings!) and was the team captain there for my junior and senior year. Was I good? Ehhh. But swimming helped keep me on the straight and narrow and I built so many great friendships.
