Kristi Gordon Global Bc Meteorologist
Global B.C. meteorologist Kristi Gordon, who is pregnant with her second child, shared some of the shockingly “vicious” hate mail she’s received over her pregnancy-related weight gain on the station’s Thursday edition of News Hour Plus. Sitting at the news desk with Global anchors Robin Stickley and Squire Barnes, Gordon read out a couple of letters she received in the mail this week.
“Nowhere on North America TV have we seen a weather reader so gross as you,” one letter read. “Your front end looks like the Hindenburg and your rear-end looks like a brick sh—house. We now turn off Global,” another stated. Some letters also took aim at her choice of clothing. “Buy some decent clothes and have more respect for your unborn child,” the letter reads. “Looser tops would look much more professional.”Kristi Gordon
Unfortunately, this kind of response — described as “vicious” and “cruel” by Stickley — was expected, Gordon said on the newscast. “We were expecting this because it happened to me last time when I was pregnant. As I got bigger I started getting more and more bad notes and emails from people,” she said, which is why when she first announced her second pregnancy on the air she pleaded with viewers to “please be nice to me.”
And while Gordon said she considers herself a “pretty confident person” and that the hate mail isn’t really affecting her, she noticed she asked her husband about her appearance and has been taking a couple more glances in the mirror. “When you say something mean about someone, it still affects them,” said Gordon.
Kristi Gordon Career
He began working as a meteorologist immediately after completing her university. She spent some years working across Canada both as an on-air meteorologist and operational meteorologist. The meteorologist worked in Vancouver but lived in Edmonton and Toronto and served for almost every other network in the country.
As of now, she serves as a meteorologist on Global News at 5, Global News Hour at 6, Global News at 10, and Global News at 11 and also features in weekday afternoons and weeknights on BC1. She is deemed as one of Canada’s top-rated newscast in the country.
Kristi Gordon Global Tv
The first thing you notice about Kristi Gordon is her down-to-earth nature. Her let’s-get-real vibe not only comes across when she met me at the door of her home—all smiles and wearing a T-shirt, jeans and not a speck of makeup—but from the moment we started to chat.
“I’m not a natural at-home mother—I find this stuff really tough, it’s not my thing,” she laughs. With her five-month-old son Braden grinning at me from her hip, Gordon tells me she is enjoying motherhood the second time around (her son Jordan is four now) but finding the at-home portion while on maternity leave until next June somewhat challenging. Some moms find more balance in their lives when their families and career are simpatico. “I’m not really a baby person,” she grins. “I love my kids, but I don’t have that instinct to pick up someone else’s baby that isn’t mine, for instance. Sometimes I feel like all I do all day long is put kids to bed, or feed them, and I go bonkers.”
Gordon, born and raised in White Rock, is the senior meteorologist on Global BC’s News Hour, Early News and Noon News Hour. She is looking forward to returning to work next summer and has most certainly risen from the ashes of the media frenzy around her on-camera growing belly during both pregnancies. A few viewers took a negative view and complained in hateful letters to Global and directly to Gordon that she should be taken off the air, looked like the “Hindenburg” and more.
Global fully supported Gordon and her choice to work right up to her due date, and the wardrobe she wore on-air. Haters were outnumbered, thankfully. “I would get floods of email through our website, about 300 emails a day from all over the world, with people supporting me who had seen and heard about this awful stuff,” Gordon says. “Teachers in China were using this as an example to teach their kids about women’s rights and equality. It was amazing.”
“Now the larger conversation about the unrealistic expectations on the appearance of on-air meteorologists and the unfair negativity toward pregnant women on TV often references me, which is kind of nice.” Happy to be the poster child for a positive shift, she says, “Times are changing. Women don’t need to be picture perfect, pregnant or not, and life isn’t like that.”
Kristi Gordon Married / Husband
Gordan is a married woman. She married to her longterm boyfriend-turned husband Paul. Although they had a lavish wedding, the exact date of their wedding and venue is not revealed. The couple supports each other and has immense love and respect for one another. Kristi feels that she has found a life partner who inspires her to move forward in life and considers the day of her wedding to be one of her best days.
The family is blessed with a baby boy whose name is Jordon. The star gave birth to another son in 2015, who is now two years old, and she claims he’s less noisy and calm than her elder child. In an interview, Kristi shared that being pregnant never made her feel emotionally disgusted, but that she was somehow weird but inexplicable.
