Lakeith Stanfield In Talks To Star In Jordan Peele’s “Candyman” Reboot

The “Candyman” reboot now has an official release date.
Jordan Peele first announced his plans to make a “spiritual sequel” to Candyman back in October and according to new reports, the movie is on its way to production.

“The original was a landmark film for black representation in the horror genre. Alongside Night of the Living Dead, Candyman was a major inspiration for me as a filmmaker — and to have a bold new talent like Nia at the helm of this project is truly exciting. We are honored to bring the next chapter in the Candyman canon to life and eager to provide new audiences with an entry point to Clive Barker’s legend,” Jordan said.

According to Super Bro Movies, Lakeith Stanfield (who previously worked with Jordan on Get Out) is in talks to star in the upcoming film. The publication details how he would play Anthony, “described as a socially pronounced artist in Chicago who researches the urban legend of Candyman.” After investigating one of Candyman’s recent murders, Anthony finds that people around him are dying off as well.

The role of Anthony is based on the original character Helen Lyle, played by Virginia Madsen, which means the reboot will have a gender-flip role from female-to-male.

The movies set to hit theaters June 12th, 2020.
