Pulitzer Prize and the Emmy Award winner, M L Elrick is an investigative reporter and former Detroit Tigers beer man Additionally, he wrote the book “The Kwame Sutra: Musings on Lust, Life, and Leadership from Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick” along with Schaefer.

Elrick’s first sound journal investigation involved sleep security at Michigan State University. He later founded the Reporter-Intelligencer University, a tabloid that held officials accountable and challenged the local status quo.
After working as a clerk and a Detroit Free Press intern, he traveled all over Europe, filing stories from the road before settling down to help manage a youth hostel in Killarney, Ireland.
His work has been published in The New York Times, Newsday, Investigative Reporters not to mention the Editors Journal, Salon.com, Rollingstone.com, Chicago Magazine, National Law Journal, and Hour Detroit magazine. He is a professor of journalism at the Wayne State University and Michigan- Dearborn University.
With the Detroit Free Press, Elrick was a member of a team that covered Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and uncovered the scandals that led to his resignation from office and a criminal conviction in 2008. To break the case openly, the reporters filed a lawsuit under the Freedom of Information Act heard by the Supreme Court of Michigan.
