Marcus Moore is joining ABC News as Dallas-based correspondent.

Moore joins from ABC’s Dallas affiliate WFAA, where he is an anchor and reporter. He has also traveled internationally for stories including from the middle east covering the Syrian refugee crisis, and from Chile on the rescue of 33 trapped miners in 2010.

“Marcus has also been on the front lines of coverage of extreme weather,” writes ABC News president James Goldston in a note to staff, obtained by TVNewser.

“With an extensive background in storm chasing, Marcus has reported on Hurricane Harvey, Hurricane Patricia in Mexico, and Hurricane Katrina when it made landfall in Biloxi.”

Moore, who is fluent in Spanish and Russian, joins ABC News Oct. 9. That Russian may come in handy over the next few months.

WFAA8 hires Kansas City’s Marcus Moore after losing Chris Hawes

Moore’s decision to depart ABC affiliate KMBC-TV for Dallas was first reported by the industry news site Bottom Line Communications. His last day reportedly will be on Dec. 26th after a six-year stint with KMBC.

WFAA8 president and general manager Mike Devlin and news director Michael Valentine have not returned emails asking for confirmation of Moore’s hiring, which later was picked up by the TV Spy and mediabistro websites. But Moore, in an email reply to unclebarky.com, said that his first day at WFAA8 will be on Jan. 4th.

WFAA8 also had another vacancy, created in mid-July when Gary Reaves opted to retire from TV news.

His’s bio remains on KMBC’s “News Team” page, where he’s quoted as saying, “News is in my blood. I believe the Lord has called me to the profession and I simply want to fulfill His will for my life.”

In November 2015, he co-anchored WFAA’s wall-to-wall coverage of the Paris attacks, he has reported on the Syrian refugee crisis from Istanbul and covered the extraordinary rescue of 33 trapped miners in Copiapo, Chile in 2010.

Marcus has also been on the front lines of coverage of extreme weather. With an extensive background in storm chasing.

His interest in news developed in 5th grade, and at 16 he landed his first job at KBTX in Bryan, Texas as a studio camera operator, eventually moving up a weekend reporter.
