The 18 year old set a national high-school record on Saturday May 12, 2019, when he ran a 100-meter race in 10.13 seconds during the Texas Class 6A state championships event at the Texas UIL state track and field championships at the University of Texas in Austin.
During the regionals, he ran the 100 in 9.98. As Boling was aided by a strong tailwind, clocked at 4.2 mph, more than twice the legal limit of 2.0, the performance was not considered a national record.
His previous wind-legal personal best was 10.22 for the 100-meter dash. Boling also logged a 20.58-second finish in the 200-meter dash. He also competed in the long jump, 4×100 . He also earned a gold in the 1,600-meter relay event. He was instrumental to his teams gold win with a time of 3 minutes abd 13.7 seconds.
According to his father, Mathew does not get the athleticism from the genes, it is entirely his work ethics and self-effort.
Matthew Boling Scholarship
Boling made an official announced in November 2018, that he had accepted an athletic scholarship from Georgia University and will join the Bulldogs this fall.
In an interview with The Old Coach, Boling talked about the reasons why he chose Georgia over other programs. He stated, “I liked the size of the team and how there were still a lot of pros training there. Definitely (getting in the) weight room. They do a lot of that there and the head coach has a really good weight room routine.”
