Michael Grant Career
Grant started his serious writing career with Gone in 2008. The series includes six novels. It’s a conventional young adult sci – fi series set in a dystopian universe. Besides that, it’s a curious cross between the classic The Lord of the Flies and the horror books of Stephen King.
Gone illustrates a town in Perdido where everyone aged fifteen or older has mysteriously disappeared. Only teenagers are left to deal with the aftermath of their disappearance. The entire city full of teenagers goes haywire in the absence of adult supervision, food supply and loss of connection from the outside world.
In addition, the youth began to develop uncanny supernatural powers that threaten to break out a war between different city divisions. The novel’s ingenious plot and multidimensional characters earned great praise from readers and critics.
It instantly became a raging success as it tops the bestselling list of the New York Times. Grant’s growing popularity had to write its sequels. The other five installments in the series are the titles, Hunger (2009), Lies (2010), Plague (2011), Fear (2012) and Light (2013).
Grant began with a new humorous children’s fantasy series after publishing Gone. The first book in The Magnificent 12 series, entitled The Call, was published in 2011. It revolves around an average Mack MacAvoy preteen whose mundane life is suddenly interrupted by a mysterious event.
The series is a parody of conventional YA fantasy novels in which the protagonist is set on an adventure to defeat the evil and save the world. Other titles in the series are The Trap, The Key and The Power.
Grant has recently published a new BZRK series in the same young adult genre. The series deals with the terrifying advance of technology that can control the human mind. An evil corporation with the aim of turning the world into their idea of an utopian empire is trying to deprive the human race of their free will.
The only thing standing in their way is a group of teenagers, known as BZRK, who are trying to save people from this madness. The author has created a clever plot that envisages the future where humans will be at the mercy of diabolical technology. Michael Grant’s upcoming writing projects include Messenger of Fear and Soldier Girl Trilogy.
