Nick Kelly Biography
Nick Kelly is a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist by the American Meteorological Society at KOAM-TV. Nick grew up in the St. Louis, Missouri area and started at KOAM in October 2011. Nick was an on air meteorologist for KOMU-TV in Columbia, Missouri, and interned for KPLR-TV in St. Louis.

In May 2009-August 2009 he was an intern at the KPLR TV where he did the following: Created graphics/maps for John Fuller’s weathercast, Updated maps and forecast graphics for the KPLR11.com weather website, Created new hurricane tracking maps for Hurricane Season, Sent text forecasts to mobile weather subscribers, Improved WxWarn II Weather Crawl by adding county seats to individual county maps to identify areas impacted by severe weather and Created forecasts with John Fuller for web and weathercast.
In October 2008-October 2011 he join the KOMU TV as a meteorologist\ Producer in which he Create detailed, easy-to-explain graphics/maps for weathercasts, Help with wall-to-wall severe weather coverage and he was on air every Saturdays at 10 pm.
In October 2011 up to date he works at KOAM TV as a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist by the American Meteorological on Satursay and Sundays at 9 on the weekends. In August 2015 he was awarded AMS Certified Broadcast Meteorologist Designation.

Late Sunday May 19th – Storm chances lining up this week
JOPLIN, Mo. – Good late Sunday evening, everyone. After dealing with severe weather on Saturday, it was nice to see a break in the action today. We enjoyed partly to mostly sunny skies and highs back into the lower to middle 70s this afternoon. Now, our attention will be foucsed on our storm system working in from the west. Some cloud cover may sneak in later tonight,
We’ll stay quiet for tonight. Monday morning is looking quiet with partly sunny skies. Monday afternoon is when we’ll be watching for our first round of strong to severe t-storms to develop and work in. In addition to that, there’s another chance for severe weather on Tuesday along with a threat for flash flooding.
Completed tornado surveys from April 30th
JOPLIN, Mo. – The National Weather Service offices of Springfield and Tulsa have spent the past week conducting damage surveys from the tornadoes back on April 30th, 2019. If you combine all the counties that Tulsa and Springfield cover, survey teams were able to confirm 40 tornadoes from last Tuesday. If you include the brief rope tornado that touched down in southern Labette County at 1:18 PM Tuesday, our area saw 10 tornadoes touch down during the course of Tuesday afternoon and early Tuesday evening. For our area, we saw:
- An EF-1 in Nowata County around Lenapah. Estimated winds: 90-100 mph. Path length: 7.5 miles. No injuries & no fatalities.
- An EF-1 around Bernice & Afton. Estimated winds: 90-100 mph. Path length: 4.1 miles. No injuries & no fatalities.
- An EF-1 that crossed the Craig-Ottawa County line. Estimated winds: 90-100 mph. Path length: 6.3 miles. No injuries & no fatalities.
- An EF-1 that went through Miami in Ottawa County. Estimated winds: 85-95 mph. Path length: 7.2 miles. No injuries & no fatalities.
- An EF-1 that hopped over the Lawrence-Dade County line. Peak wind speed: 95 mph. Path length: 0.6 miles. No injuries & no fatalities.
- An EF-0 near Pleasant Ridge (5 miles northeat of Purdy) in Barry County. Peak wind speed: 85 mph. Path length: 5 miles. No injuries & no fatalities.
- An EF-1 that went through Wheaton and other parts of McDonald & Barry Counties. Peak wind speed: 110 mph. Path length: 12 miles. No injuries & no fatalities.
- An EF-0 that went into Cassville in Barry County. Peak wind speed: 75 mph. Path length: 1.89 miles. No injuries & no fatalities.
