Perry began his career playing in various LA bands, he then got success with Jane’s Addiction. The band made its name in mid-1980s LA by building up a rabid fan base with legendary, with high high-energy shows in small LA rock clubs. Jane’s Addiction, prior to their first break-up, released three albums: Jane’s Addiction, Nothing’s Shocking and Ritual de lo Habitual. A B-sides album from the Ritual sessions, titled Live and Rare was released in Japan. Jane’s Addiction later broke up due to internal tensions over differing ideologies mostly centering on drug use in 1991, Farrell’s severe addiction to heroin. In 1997, Jane’s Addiction later reformed for a brief reunion tour with Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers on bass guitar.
After their break-up of Jane’s Addiction, He then formed Porno for Pyros with former bandmate Stephen Perkins together with Peter DiStefano on guitar and Martyn LeNoble on bass. They then released two albums, Porno for Pyros and Good God’s Urge. Farrell got credited with changing the fortunes of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. Following the festival’s disastrous first year in 1999, the event was not held in 2000. In 2001, a decision was made to organize the festival again, but just a few months before the festival was set to occur, there was still no headlining group.

Farrell together with the festival’s organizers decided to reunite Jane’s Addiction for the 2001 event, that helped draw large crowds and allowed the festival to yield a profit. Farrell again toured with Jane’s Addiction in 2001 and 2003. In 2003, Jane’s Addiction later released an album, Strays. It quickly became one of their best selling records and was certified gold in the USA and silver in the UK. They then toured extensively in North America and Europe and brought back Lollapalooza for the first time since 1997, they as well performed at the Big Day Out festivals in Australia and New Zealand. Internal struggles saw the band split up again in early 2004.
He then performed at Purimpalooza, which celebrates the Jewish holiday of Purim. It was a concert of all ages and presented different Jewish musical groups. It took place in Ruby Skye in San Francisco and featured bands including Moshav, Chutzpah, and Matisyahu. Farrell is famously an adherent to the Jewish mysticism known as Kabbalah, along with Madonna and other celebrities. In an interview with Rolling Stone Magazine in June 2018, Farrell professed his admiration for the writings and teachings of the late Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson.

 Perry Farrell’s Kind Heaven Orchestra

Farrell will debut a new solo band, the Kind Heaven Orchestra, at a Los Angeles gig later this month. He’s named the ensemble after his upcoming album, Kind Heaven, which is due out in 2019 and will be the singer’s first solo material in 18 years. The lineup as well includes former Pearl Jam and Soundgarden drummer Matt Chamberlain and bassist Chris Cheney and keyboardist Matt Rohde, both of whom plays with Farrell in Jane’s Addiction and guitarist Nick Maybury, as well as Farrell’s wife, Etty, on vocals. The album will as well feature Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee, Dhani Harrison, the Cars’ guitarist Elliot Easton and the Foo Fighters’ drummer, Taylor Hawkins. His first solo album in 18 years, following 2001’s Song Yet to Be Sung. He then recorded the new album with an array of musicians that would make up the Kind Heaven Orchestra, including David Bowie’s longtime collaborator, Tony Visconti, who co-produced the album. The LP also features contributions from the Foo Fighters’ Taylor Hawkins, the Cars’ Elliott Easton, and Dhani Harrison. Farrell will embark on a North American tour in support of Kind Heaven June 7th at City Winery in New York City. The run wraps June 25th at the Mod Club in Toronto, Ontario, though Ferrell and the Kind Heaven Orchestra will also perform at Lollapalooza in Chicago, August 4th. Tickets for the new tour dates go on sale April 5th at 10 a.m. local time and include a digital download code for Kind Heaven.
