Peter Coyote Biography

Peter Coyote is an American actor, director, author, narrator, screenwriter. He is known for his roles in the movies ‘ Cross Creek,” Patch Adams,” Jagged Edge,” A Walk to Remember,’ and’ Good Kill.’

As a narrator, he is known for his work in the documentary’ The Roosevelts’ for which he received an Emmy Award. Raised in a cultural and intellectual environment, Coyote’s interest in both acting and politics began in high school. In college, he fasted for three days during the Cuban Missile crisis along with eleven other students, supporting the “peace race” of then-President John F. Kennedy.

Coyote attended San Francisco State University to study creative writing after graduating with a BA in English Literature. He later became a member of the San Francisco Mime Troupe and began writing, directing, and acting in plays before also venturing into films and television. The talented personality is also an amateur photographer.

Peter Coyote was born to Ruth and Morris Cohon, who worked as an investment banker, as Robert Peter Cohon on October 10, 1941, in New York City, New York, USA. He was raised in a family that was highly cultural but non-religious. He attended Dwight Morrow High School and was later enrolled at Grinnell College. He changed his name to “Coyote” during his college time. Peter is  77 Years old as of 2018.

Peter Coyote Career

Peter Coyote initially joined the San Francisco Mime Troupe radical political street theater and started to act, direct and write scripts. From 1967 to 1975, he was active in the counterculture community of San Francisco. He also co-founded an anarchist group called Diggers during this time and began to create theater events for the same.

He was employed by the historical Neighborhood Arts Program (NAP) of the San Francisco Arts Commission in the early 1970s. He joined the California Arts Council in 1975 and served as its member until 1983. He resumed playing with plays at the Magic Theatre in 1978. His big screen career began with the 1980 comedy drama’ Die Laughing.’ Soon after that, the actor had his first starring role in’ Timerider: Lyle Swann’s Adventure, William Dear’s action adventure.

He played a role in the 1985 release of the court drama thriller flick ‘ Jagged Edge.’ Coyote made a guest appearance on the TV drama ‘ Road to Avonlea’ in 1990 and won his first nomination for the Emmy Award. He had lead roles in the series’ The Inside’ and’ The 4400′ during the early 2000s. He next played the U.S. Vice President in the’ Commander in Chief’ of ABC.

Following a role in the series ‘Brothers & Sisters,’ he narrated ‘Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room’. He then created the political television show ‘The Active Opposition’ in 2006. The actor narrated PBS ‘ documentary ‘ Torturing Democracy ‘ (2008), which highlighted George W. Bush’s government’s use of ‘ enhanced interrogation techniques ‘ in the so-called ‘ War on Terror. ‘ In the 2000s, he narrated 15 episodes of the ‘ National Geographic Explorer. ‘ In 2010, he narrated the documentary ‘ Solitary Confinement.
