Herman Raymond Walston, popularly known as Ray Walston was an American actor and comedian who was well known as the title character on My Favorite Martian.

He was born on 2 November 1914 and died on 1 January 2001 when he was 86 years old. Being born in Laurel, Mississippi, U.S., he is of American nationality and of White ethnicity. His birth/zodiac sign is Scorpio.

Ray Walston Spouse| Divorced

As of her relationship status, Ray was married. He married Ruth Calvert who was a great-granddaughter of former Governor Oran Roberts of Texas. The two had one daughter, Katharine Ann.

Calvert was born on 15 March 1916 and died on 26 January 2004 when she was 88 years old.

His dad died in 1946 while his mom died on 16 August 1950.  Ray was the youngest of three siblings; he had an elder brother, Earl, and an older sister, Carrie.

At around 1925, his family moved from Mississippi to New Orleans, Louisiana. His father wanted him to be in the oil business, but Ray wanted to pursue his life-long passion for acting. Walton’s father earned merely $ 10 a week, but Ray was so fond of movies that he used to watch silent movies in the local movie theatre very often.

Ray Walston Career

He started his acting career as a spear carrier with a local stock company. When his family moved to Houston, Texas, his father wanted to teach him the oil business, but Walston instead joined a traveling repertory company selling tickets as well as acting.

Walston went on to associate with Margo Jones at the Houston Civic Theater for six years, then spent three seasons with the Cleveland Playhouse before arriving in New York in 1945.

Also, he won a Tony Award for his performance as the Devil in Broadway’s Damn Yankees, two Emmy Awards for Picket Fences in 1992, and become a household name playing the extraterrestrial “Uncle Martin” on My Favorite Martian in 1963.

Ray Walston died at age 86 of lupus on New Year’s Day 2001 in Beverly Hills, California.

His family moved to Dallas, Texas, where he joined a repertory theater company under Margo Jones in 1938.

He is most prominently known for his role as the mysterious Uncle Martin in My Favorite Martian. Also, Ray is known as Mr. Hand in Fast Times at Ridgemont High. He started acting in small roles in local theatres of his town when he was quite young. He also played small roles with stock companies.
