Rick was born in Guanabacoa in Cuba. He was born as ‘Ricardo León Sánchez de Reinaldo’ on July 2, 1958. Although he was born in Cuba, he along with his family moved to Florida, U.S when he was two years old. He grew up in his early life in the suburbs of Florida. According to him, he suffered racism and prejudice while growing up during his childhood. His father worked as a truck driver, dish washer, and factory worker.
