Ruth Wignall joins Nation Radio for breakfast

ITV Wales weather presenter Ruth Wignall is to co-host The Big Welsh Wake-Up breakfast show on Nation Radio.

Ruth will be joining Niall Foster each morning, in addition to her nightly weather bulletins on the television.

“Niall and I both like to talk so I’m sure we’ll generate a lot of heat on Nation Radio.“ says Ruth.

“I started my career on the radio and I just love the freedom it gives you. The TV is fantastic but the radio is very intimate and one-to-one and I like that. I’m a self-confessed weather obsessive which living in Wales usually means hours each day apologizing for the rain!”

Neil Greenslade, Nation Radio’s program director, says: “We love Ruth. She’s a real breath of fresh air. We want to put her on The Big Welsh Wake-Up so she can have fun with Niall and chat with listeners – as well as do the weather of course.”

Ruth Wignall Night out for a Night In for Macmillan

TV presenter Ruth Wignall is asking people across Wales to swap their night out for a Night In for Macmillan Cancer Support this May.

The popular ITV Cymru Wales presenter is encouraging people to host a Night In on Friday 16 May to help Macmillan to support people affected by cancer across Wales. She has shown her support for the event by taking part in a Night In a photo shoot for Macmillan with her mother Liz Dodsworth.

Ruth is supporting Night In after her family had help from Macmillan when her grandfather was diagnosed with prostate cancer and secondary bone cancer 20 years ago. She said: “He was ill for such a long time and the degeneration was quite brutal, but Macmillan made all the difference to my nan and my mum.

“They did home visits, they helped with the practicality of it all and they were someone to talk to at such a lonely time – they were an extension of the family.” Her family’s link with the charity has continued after her father Stephen Dodsworth, 63, was diagnosed with blood cancer three years ago.

Ruth said: “Dad has a type of blood cancer and he’s doing really well. “He has a really good quality of life but we know that that won’t always be the case. “Knowing that Macmillan is there and will be there for him and my mum makes a huge difference.” You can sign up to host your Night In here.
