She has three siblings(brothers); Josh Richardson, Chad Richardson and Nalin. She used to play tennis while in high school and started acting in the Kuumba Workshop theater. She attended the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools and graduated in 1985. She has been married to her long time boyfriend, Dondre Whitfield since September 8th, 2002. The couple has a daughter, Parker Richardson-Whitfield, and a son, Dondre Terrell Whitfield Jr.
