Sebastian Grey Biography
Sebastian Grey is a Colombian fashion designer who is the winner of season 17 of Project Runway. He has more than ten years of experience in fashion designing.
Sebastian attended Incolballet, a fine arts school located two hours away from Cali. He also studied at Cali’s Academy of Professional Drawing, where he majored in fashion design, and then won a scholarship to study at Miami’s Instituto Marangoni.

Sebastian Grey Fashion Design
Sebastian was inspired to pursue design after a ballet performance he attended with his parents.
After the performance, he decided to try dancing and according to Sebastian, ” “While preparing for ballet performances, I began paying close attention to the details of the outfits being constructed.”
He has learned from and worked with Lina Cantillo and Andres Otalora, both South American designers.
Sebastian has owned and operated stores in his hometown of Cali, as well as Medellin, after launching his Sebastian Grey brand.
He has also had his collections featured all over Colombia. He mainly produces women’s wear, describing his aesthetic as “sexy and educated.”
Sebastian hopes To “take the United States and abroad by storm with sophisticated concepts, unconventional construction methods, and attention to high-end detail.”
Sebastian Grey Project Runway
Sebastian is a contestant on season 17 of Bravo’s Project Runway which premiered on March 14, 2019.
This season’s judges are supermodel Karlie Kloss, returning judge, and editor-in-chief of Elle, Nina Garcia, fashion designer Brandon Maxwell, and editor-in-chief of Teen Vogue, Elaine Welteroth.
In episode two of season 17, Sebastian created the winning look. Judge Brandon Maxwell praised his design, saying, “The precision on even just the cutting of the tulle, you can tell that he is making everything with a pattern, whereas some people just have a tendency to, like, cut and go.”
Nina Garcia added, “[The material is] hanging directly from her skin because the illusion makes it feel like there’s nothing there.”
Sebastian revealed that he works best as part of a team. He said, “I work well as part of a team. Designing a garment for production involves the work of many, from pattern making to sewing to shipping. I pride myself in working well with all involved.”
Sebastian Grey Finale
On June 14, 2019, Sebastian was crowned the winner of the 17th season of Project Runway. He triumphed over fellow glam gladiators Garo Sparo and Hester Sunshine in the finale.
The judges went gaga on his impeccably made collection. Brandon Maxwell described it as “incredibly chic,” while Nina Garcia praised the open-weave leather detail.
DVF noted that the looks had “a yin and a yang” quality, like “extremely refined streetwear.”
The judges then excluded Garo and that left them with Sebastian and Hester. “He perfectly straddles the line between art and commerce,” Nina Garcia noted.
DVF noted that Hester feels relevant and has “an enormous amount of talent.” The judges finally declared Sebastian the winner.
