Sherry Margolis Biography

Sherry Margolis is an American news anchor. She is a native of Buffalo, New York. Margolis is currently a television news anchor at the Fox affiliate WJBK-TV in Detroit, MI. Her professional career to be a journalist began when she was a student at South High.

Sherry left Buffalo and arrived at WJBK-TV in 1984. She has spent 25 years at WJBK, a rare thing in a highly competitive world of television news. Sherry has won six local Emmy awards in Detroit including two for Best News Anchor.

Margolis attended South High School. She later graduated cum laude with a degree in English from the State University of New York at Buffalo, where she did graduate work in Communication. Soon after college, she began her career as anchor and reporter at Buffalo New York, WKBW-TV.

Sherry became a broadcast host and producer of a daily morning children’s television program, “The Jelly Roll Review.”  Emmy-award winning anchor Margolis has been familiar to Detroit television viewers since joining the FOX 2 News team in September of 1984.

She is the co-anchor, with Kam Carman of the 5:00 AM segment of FOX 2 News Morning, and anchors the “In the News” segment from 5:30 to 9:00 AM. She also anchors FOX 2 News at Noon and is the reporter for “Tough Stuff,” hard-hitting reports on the challenging, sometimes difficult issues facing people in today’s society.

The Famous anchor has won two prestigious Edward R. Murrow regional awards for a documentary called, “Tribute to Our Troops”, not to mention she also won honors from the Society of Professional Journalists, the Associated Press, and the Michigan Association of Broadcasters.

Sherry is active in her community supporting organizations such as the Gleaners Food Bank, the Alzheimer’s Association, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and the Asthma and Allergy Foundation. For many years, she served as host of Detroit’s broadcast of the Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Association Telethon.

In 2002, the University of Michigan presented her with its first annual, “Community Involvement Award” for her report on proposed government changes that threatened special education programs in Michigan schools.

Sherry is married to Wall Street Journal columnist and author, Jeffrey Zaslow. They have three daughters and reside in suburban Detroit. Jeff Zaslow, the best-selling author, died in an automobile crash at age 53. Zaslow worked as a columnist for The Wall Street Journal and penned several New York Times bestsellers, including “The Last Lecture”, and “The Girls From Ames and Highest Duty”.

According to the Antrim County Sheriffs Department, Zaslow was killed in an automobile accident in northern Michigan Friday morning. It happened just after 9 a.m. on M-32, about half-mile from US-131 near Elmira. Police report he lost control of the vehicle on the snow-covered road and was hit by a semi-truck.
