He started producing high school music. He used to work on DWA FL Studio software to produce music. He did not like being a rapper’s attention and therefore preferred to work as a producer behind the scenes.
In multiple interviews, he himself admitted that he failed to find success as a producer because his beats were not very good and no one wanted to rap them. After failing to find success as a producer, he started to rap over his own instruments.

He uploaded his first song to the online audio distribution platform’ SoundCloud’ in July 2015, but deleted it as he felt it lacked quality. Soon after, he uploaded his second song on SoundCloud, entitled’ Live off a lick,’ featuring rapper XXXTentacion.
His first successful song on SoundCloud was’ Sam$ung Jumpin.’ His next hit on SoundCloud was the’ Ski Mask ‘ song that went viral and had millions of views on the website.

He is categorized as a’ SoundCloud rapper’ in the media and music industry. His musical style is classified as’ Lo-fi rap ‘ and/or ‘ trap.’ His songs contain recurrent lyrical references to drug use, luxury cars, gang violence, and sexual activity. He signed a deal under the Universal Music Group with music industry executive Todd Moscowitz’s new record label’ Alamo Records’ in March 2017. He received a diamond chain worth $50,000 as a bonus gift. He also signed a deal with Interscope records in the same month. He also released an extended play (EP) record called’ Up Now Fuck Next’ on May 12, 2017, on the Alamo Records label in a digital download format.

He is a frequent collaborator with fellow Florida rap artist Lil Pump whom he has known since childhood. He is also a collaborator with Murda Beatz, a Canadian producer, and rapper. He released his single’ Audi’ in May 2017, which became his biggest hit to date with 25 million plays on SoundCloud and 33 million streams on Spotify. The song was certified Gold by the American Recording Industry Association (RIAA). The song was included in his mixtape album ‘ Deadstar’ released in September 2017. He signed on to the record label Cactus Jack Records after the release of his mixtape ‘ Deadstar.’

His mixtape’ Deadstar,’ released on September 28, 2017, is a compilation of both his released and unreleased singles and features collaborations with artists Chief Keef, Juicy J, Travis Scott, Yo Gotti, D.R.A.M., and Lil Pump. The producers on this mixtape include veteran names such as TM88, Ronny J, and Harry Fraud. He was gifted a chain as a gift to sign on to Travis Scott’s Cactus Jack Records label after this mixtape was released.

The Deadstar mixtape debuted on the Billboard 200 album chart at No. 42. Deadstar also reached No. 24 on the Billboard Top R&B / Hip Hop album chart and No. 16 on the Billboard Top Rap album chart. It reached No. 77 on the Canadian Albums chart of the Billboard.

The mixtape’ Deadstar’ features eighteen tracks and is Smokepurpp’s first major album. Its initial release date was September 22, 2017, but was finally released on September 28, 2017.
He announced on the MTV show’ TRL’ on November 8, 2017, that he is collaborating with Canadian producer and rapper Murda Beatz on a new mixtape titled’ Bless Yo Trap.’ He released two singles from the mixtape later,’ 123′ and’ Do Not Disturb.’ Rapper Lil Yachty and hip hop artist Offset from the American hip hop trio the Migos featured’ Do Not Disturb.’

The mixtape’ Bless Yo Trap’ was released on April 13, 2018, and debuted on the Billboard 200 album chart at No. 40. The mixtape reached No. 22 on the Billboard Top R&B / Hip Hop album chart. The mixtape reached No. 17 on the Billboard Top Rap album chart. The mixtape reached No. 30 on the Billboard Top Canadian album chart. The single’ 123′ from the mixtape reached No. 19 on the chart of the Billboard ‘ US bubbling hot under 100.’
