Taryn Hatcher Early Life/Education
Taryn was born on December 24th 1992, in Delran, New Jersey. she comes from a very close-knit family that is also so close together. Her parents are Jeff and Connie and her older brother, Kyle. Taryn knew that she wanted to be a sports reporter when she was just 10 years old. She made the decision while sitting on the couch, watching college basketball with her dad.
Sports played a central role in Taryn’s early life. Her grandpa played football and her dad played basketball. Taryn herself was in ballet, jazz and tap as a kid, and got into soccer later in her life. In fact, she played soccer at Delran High School, but blew out her knee and could not play in college.
Staying close to home, Taryn started at Rutgers University in 2011. Graduating in 2014, she took full advantage of her time there, earning two Bachelor of Arts degrees: journalism and mass media, and political science. She also covered sports for WRSU Rutgers Radio, and volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and Relay for Life. Taryn worked as a waitress at Philadelphia based sports bar Chickie’s and Pete’s.

Taryn had a clear idea of what she wanted to do. She began paving her way for a career in sports while she was still in college. She worked for iHeart Radio as a social media and production intern in 2013. In the same year, she earned an internship with Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia, now known as NBC Sports Philadelphia – her current employer. Continuing to build on her experience, Taryn completed a third internship in 2014 this one at the CBS Corporation in the sports department.
In her senior year, she moved from intern to employee when she was hired by the Big Ten Network (BTN) as a freelance sideline reporter for NCAA basketball, and as a reporter for BTN Plus. Straight out of college, Taryn was hired by Hawaii News Now as a sports anchor and reporter. She remained at the network for three years before being recruited for her dream job – reporting for Philadelphia sports. She officially joined NBC Sports Philadelphia in the summer of 2018 as a multi-platform reporter and host.
