Chuck Gaidica, Detroit newcomer Tati Amare to co-host ‘Live in the D’

Monday, Sept. 28, marks Chuck Gaidica’s return to Channel 4 as the new co-host of ‘Live in the D.’

A familiar face on Channel 4 as the chief meteorologist from 1987 to 2014, Gaidica left the TV station last year to focus on ministry work. He currently is the pastor of outreach and innovation at Oak Pointe Church in Novi – a position he will continue in addition to his duties on ‘Live in the D,’ which debuted in August 2013.

‘I will continue to be in ministry. God continues to write my story,’ said Gaidica, 57. ‘WDIV decided to make some changes in the show and asked me to be part of it. I wasn’t looking for a new show. The station approached me about the new opportunity to co-host the show.’

Gaidica stated this opportunity to co-host ‘Live in the D’ – Channel 4’s hour-long daily news and talk show that focuses not only on current headlines but also the positive happenings across the metro Detroit area – fits into his occasional ‘Force 4 Good’ segments he does for Channel 4 since his departure.

‘The show is a relentlessly positive look at Detroit and really all of southeast Michigan,’ said Gaidica. ‘Being part of ‘Live in the D’ was an unexpected but happy opportunity for me to connect with the people of Detroit in a new way and still have time to serve our community.’

Gaidica is joined by newcomer Tati Amare, an award-winning producer and journalist who grew up in Los Angeles. Not only is she new to ‘Live in the D’ and Channel 4, but she’s also new to Detroit. Amare comes from New York City, where she hosted ‘BK Live’ for BRIC-TV of Brooklyn, NY and also co-hosted ‘Breaking Bread’ for New Evangelization Television (NET), a Christian-based TV station in Brooklyn, NY.

”Live in the D’ is a go to resource to find out what’s going on around town and highlights the amazing people that are making these things happen,’ said Amare.

Gaidica praised his new co-host.

‘(Tati) is a kind person and a blast to work with on the show,’ said Gaidica. ‘As you may know there are many talented New Yorkers coming to Detroit. That is cool.’

Gaidica and Amare replace original ‘Live in D’ co-hosts/long-time Channel 4 stalwarts Karen Drew and Guy Gordon. Both Drew and Gordon will return to ‘covering the hard news and supporting our all-important newscasts and web content,’ per a statement from Channel 4 Vice President/General Manager Marla Drutz. With the addition of Gaidica and Amare, some major changes are in store for ‘Live in the D.’

‘First and foremost, the (big) change will be the hosts of me and Tati. There are new segments being added and the chemistry with Tati will bring a major fun factor,’ said Gaidica. ‘I can’t discuss all changes. Many changes initially will include the opening, music, etc. There are some new surprises coming too.’

On their debut episode, Gaidica stated that the highlight will be introducing Amare to the audience. There will also be live music and other ‘fun topics,’ according to Gaidica.

Besides new hosts, another major change is ‘Live in the D’ will now air at 10 a.m. on Channel 4 (it previously aired at 11 a.m.).

‘The time change to 10 a.m. is a great fit coming out of ‘The Today Show.’ With (‘Today with Kathy Lee & Hoda’) following our show, we will essentially be live through noon on Channel 4 (starting with ‘Local News Today,’ which runs from 4:30 to 7 a.m.),’ said Gaidica. ‘After years of live morning radio, this is a perfect fit for me. ‘Live in the D’ is a positive, fun and informational show. I can’t wait for this new chapter in my career.’
