Taylor Swift Biography

Taylor Swift (Taylor Alison Swift) is an American singer-songwriter born on 13th December 1989 in Reading, Pennsylvania, U.S. She is known for her narrative songs about her personal life with popular hits like ‘Blank Space’, ‘Love Story’ among others. In 2018 she became the most awarded female winner in AMA history with a total of 23 awards.

Taylor attended Alvernia Montessori School for her preschool and kindergarten before transferring to The Wyndcroft School. She later attended Wyomissing Area Junior/Senior High School. Taylor grew an interest in musical theater at the age of 9 and performed in four Berks Youth Theatre Academy productions. She used to take vocal and acting lessons in New York City. She later shifted her focus on country music and spent her weekends performing at local festivals and events. At the age of eleven, she traveled with her mother to Nashville and visited Nashville record labels where she submitted a demo tape of Dolly Parton and Dixie Chicks karaoke covers but was rejected.

At the age of 12, she began taking guitar lessons from Ronnie Cremer, who was a local computer repairman and local musician. He also helped her write her song ‘ Lucky You’. In 2003 Taylor and her parents began working with Dan Dymtrow, a New York-based music manager who helped Taylor model for Abercrombie & Fitch as part of their “Rising Stars” campaign.

It was a performance at The Bluebird Café in Nashville helped Taylor Swift land a contract with Scott Borchetta’s Big Machine Records. After landing the contract Taylor then recorded her first single titled  ‘Tim McGraw’ in 2006. The song became a Top 10 hit on the country charts and it also appeared on her self-titled album later that year. The album sold more than 2.5 million copies.

 

Later in the year, 2007 Taylor Swift released the holiday album Sounds of the Season: The Taylor Swift Holiday Collection which she promoted extensively as the opening act for other artists on their tours. It was through this album that she won her first award, the Horizon Award from the Country Music Association (CMA) and the Academy of Country Music Award for Top New Female Vocalist in 2007.

In 2012 she released he album ‘Red’ which featured the hit single “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”, The album also selling more than one million copies in its first week. Her success led to her being ranked as number 1 in Forbes magazine’s highest-paid celebrity under 30 in 2012 with a salary of about $57 million.

In October 2014 she released the album ‘1989’ with the song “Shake It Off” reaching the top of the pop charts. The song was also nominated for three Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year and Song of the Year. In 2016 she and Zayn Malik did a single together by the name ‘I Don’t Wanna Live Forever’, as the soundtrack of the film Fifty Shades Darker. The song was a success as it topped several charts.

She agreed and went in to get checked. There were no red flags and she felt perfectly fine, but she did it just to get me and my brother off her case about it. The results came in, and I’m saddened to tell you that my mom has been diagnosed with cancer.”

On 10th November 2017, Taylor released her sixth studio album, Reputation, selling 1.216 million copies in the United States—becoming 2017’s top-selling album (pure sales only) in the U.S – and 2 million copies worldwide during its first week. The album topped charts in several countries, including the US, the UK, Australia, and Canada. The album was her last album under her 12-year contract with Big Machine Records.

Prior to releasing the album, she released the lead single “Look What You Made Me Do” and it topped charts in Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The single’s video gained over 43.2 million views during its first day on YouTube, breaking the site’s record for the most-viewed music video within 24 hours at the time.

In October she released the album’s second single “…Ready for It?” which charted at number three in Australia and at number four in the United States. She later released two promotional singles “Gorgeous” and “Call It What You Want”.

From May to November 2018 she embarked on Taylor Swift’s Reputation Stadium Tour which broke multiple venue attendance and grossing records in the United States, earning $266.1 million and selling more than two million tickets. Taylor broke her own record for the highest-grossing domestic tour by a woman. Worldwide the tour grossed $345.7 million making the tour the second-highest-grossing concert tour of the year.
