Estela Casas is a news anchor in El Paso, Texas. She is best known for her health advocacy for cancer awareness. Casas is also part of the “longest running anchor team in El Paso television history.” Casas was inducted into the El Paso Women’s Hall of Fame. She’s earned many titles over the years, but the ones she’s most proud of are being a mother and a cancer survivor.  She is the youngest of three siblings and a first-generation El Pasoan with strong community ties.

Throughout Estela’s 32 years of experience, she has interviewed President Barack Obama about border issues, covered two Papal visits to Mexico, and investigated conjugal visits for inmates at CeReSo prison. She has also done stories on border politics and women’s health issues. She’s earned many titles over the years, but the ones she’s most proud of are being a mother and a cancer survivor.

She has been named to the El Paso Women’s Hall of Fame and is featured in a historical book called “Texas Women: Trail Blazers, Shining Stars and Cowgirls”. She says that she would like to be remembered as a woman proud of her Mexican culture and heritage, who was an advocate of women and children’s health issues.

TV news personality Casas created a new fund in the El Paso Community Foundation to help women with breast cancer. The Stand With Estela Fund will help patients of limited means in their battle with the disease. Donors also may target their funds for research.

The TV anchor was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2010 and has helped hundreds of women and men struggling with thyroid cancer and thyroid disease cope with their disorders by reading about her experiences on her blog and her news stories. In an interview, she told her viewers she had cancer a week after her first surgery to remove a nodule from her thyroid.
