Mark Welp Biography

Mark Welp grew up in St. Louis but has lived in many cities throughout the Midwest including Chicago, Champaign, Pekin, and currently Normal. Central Illinois is the perfect area for my family! There is so much to do and we love the people!

His family has grown a lot since he moved to Central Illinois. He married his wife, Laura, in 2011 and she gave birth to twin daughters, Abby and Emma, in 2014. He also has another set of twins, Anna and Lauren, who are teenagers now and live in California!

In his free time he enjoys watching college and pro football, hockey, and baseball; listening to music, going to concerts, problem-solving with duct tape, and taking road trips.

Welp joined the WMBD/WYZZ team in October 2017 after anchoring the morning show for almost 12 years at HOI-19.

His time anchoring WMBD This Morning, Good Day Central Illinois, and WMBD News at Noon has been a blast and he is looking forward to many exciting years here!

Working in this business has also given him the opportunity to help a lot of organizations and causes he cares about.
