Shane Hinton Biography

Shane Hinton joined the WCTI Storm Track 12 team in July 2018 as the weekend evening and weekday noon meteorologist.

Born and raised in North Carolina, Shane is originally from the small town of Princeton. He moved to Coral Gables, FL in order to pursue his education in meteorology at the University of Miami. He received a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology with minors in mathematics and electronic media.

Shane was able to help aid in research at the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science that focused on the accuracy of hurricane forecast models.

Upon graduating with his bachelor’s degree, Shane enrolled in a graduate program at the University of Miami and obtained a Master of Professional Science in Broadcast Meteorology. He participated in an internship at WTVJ NBC 6 in South Florida where he was able to conduct research on the proficiency of various forecast models.

During his time as an undergraduate and graduate student, Shane gained experience in broadcast at his campus’ cable network, UMTV, where he was their NewsVision meteorologist.
