Howard has a  son by the name Louis Levine Arenstein age  23. Early 2013 he was charged with one felony count of malicious destruction of property worth more than $1,000. The charge resulted from a sting operation June 20 that police set up after more than two dozen cars were scratched three of them with swastikas in the Northwest Washington neighborhood.

Arenstein was accused of backing over a motorcycle the night police were watching. He had not been charged in connection with any of the more sinister acts of vandalism, and prosecutors made no mention of those acts in court.

From 1974 until 1981, Arenstein resided in Israel, working as a reporter for The Jerusalem Post newspaper and for Israeli Radio. In 1978, Arenstein was hired by United Press International as the wire service’s Jerusalem bureau chief and as an editor on UPI’s foreign desk in New York and Washington.

In 1984, Arenstein joined CBS News as a writer on the overnight CBS News television broadcast CBS News Nightwatch. In 1987, he began working for CBS Radio.

During his time at CBS News, Arenstein has covered the impeachment process of President Clinton, the disputed United States presidential election, the September 11 attacks, the war in Iraq and the Beltway sniper attacks.

Arenstein has won two individual Edward R. Murrow awards for outstanding journalism one in 2002 for feature reporting, and one in 2006 for covering the first home game of the Washington Nationals baseball team.

Metropolitan Police Department officials confirmed that  Arenstein and his wife Orly Katz were arrested at their Georgetown home last night for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. Arenstein’s lawyer confirmed that Arenstein is the CBS Radio reporter and D.C. Bureau Chief.
According to court documents, Arenstein and Katz grew marijuana plants in planters outside. The couple had several plants ranging as large as 8 feet in height. Police discovered drug paraphernalia in their home. The arrest was made after police received an anonymous tip. Both Arenstein and his wife were released on personal recognizance. CBS declined to comment for this story.
